Organize every tab in reverse-chronological order — most recent documents on top. When you walk into a meeting, you want to hand them a "War Chest" that tells a story of a child who needs help and a parent who has tried everything.
The "Gold Standard" binder structure
Five tabs, each serving a distinct strategic purpose. Together they build an undeniable case.
Tab 1 — The executive summary
- The one-pager: a single sheet with a photo of your child, current diagnoses, current medications, and a 3-sentence summary of the current crisis level.
- The provider list: names and contact info for all current doctors, therapists, and attorneys.
Tab 2 — Medical & clinical: the "why"
- Neuropsychological evals: your most powerful documents.
- Discharge summaries: every ER or facility exit summary.
- Medication logs: every med tried and why it failed — proves medical necessity for higher-level care.
Tab 3 — Academic & IEP: the "gap"
- IEP/504 plans: show the accommodations the school is providing.
- Disciplinary records: suspensions or incident reports prove behavior is not just happening at home.
- The "gap" analysis: if the school says they are "fine" but they are failing, include the grades.
Tab 4 — Legal & law enforcement: the "risk"
- Police reports: even if no arrest was made, get the incident report.
- Court orders: any previous orders regarding custody, communication, or safety.

Tab 5 — Failure of lower levels
- Insurance companies only pay for residential care if you prove "failure of lower levels."
- Include receipts or summaries from outpatient therapy, wrap-around services, and in-home counseling.
- This proves that "home is no longer the least restrictive safe environment."
